I woke up around 8:30 tonight. The last thing I remember is a nurse saying, “turn all the way over on your left side, and you’ll start getting very sleepy.” That was around 2:30.

I’d asked for the good drugs.

When I woke up I asked Trish if I had embarrassed myself. “Only when the nurse said, ‘I have to take out your IV,’ and you said, ‘right now you could do just about anything.’ ”

I’m sure I meant anything medically related.

I do vaguely remember asking the nurse how everything looked. (When I went out I was looking at the scope screen and there were images of someone else’s innards, and I couldn’t stop thinking about Pres. Bush’s polyps. That was pretty damn disconcerting.) She said everything looked pretty good.
